About this event

Nature Talks will bring together lovers of nature and advocates of environmental sustainability as we hear from gardeners, scientists and environmentalists.

April Topic: What We Used to Kill: Caterpillars and Their Host Plants

It wasn’t so long ago that if something was nibbling on our plants, we whipped out the insecticide. In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in pollinators, including butterflies and moths. Folks frequently seek advice on how to identify various caterpillars, larvae, and other insects. Equally important is how to enhance our gardens to provide habitat for these creatures. Host plants and garden maintenance will be topics of discussion.

Guest Presenter: Sean James, Master Gardener and Owner of Sean James Consulting and Designs

May Topic: Rainwater Harvesting

Join us as we talk about rainwater harvesting and designing a rainwater harvesting system for your home.

Presented by Dr. Jitendrapal (Jit) Sharma, Inaugural Department Chair of Civil Engineering @ York University.

Dr. Sharma was a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan where he taught soil mechanics, foundation engineering and geotechnical modelling at undergraduate and graduate levels, was a lead investigator on several geotechnical engineering and inter-disciplinary research projects and worked closely with the local industry as a specialist geotechnical engineering consultant.
